| Here's a few pictures of the Ten Speed competition at the 2004 Knap-in. Some of the Northeasts top knappers are sitting in that group. I chickened out that year and just watched. These competitions are lot of fun to all levels of knappers, so try it at least once, and don't be bashfull. | |||||||||||||||||
| Pictured here sitting down are three of New Yorks most notorious knappers. Front: Jim Fisher, Middle: Ken Wallace, Back: Dan Long. If memory serves me correctly, Dan got a real bad piece of rock that broke apart in chunks, so he didn't end up having anything to make a decent point from. Jim got a nice piece on Onondaga Chert and manages to make a decent point out of it, while Ken made a super side notched point out of a piece of Obsidian that he drew. Several others managed to make decent points too. | |||||||||||||||||
| Here are the group of guys knapping during the competition. A huge group gathered around and it was often times hard to get in to see all the action. Front: Dan Long, Ken Wallace, Back: Jim Woodring. | |||||||||||||||||
